GM MDI Kit

 

The MDI VCM Interface is the latest generation of GM diagnostic tools. It supersedes the GM Tech II that has been around since 1998.

MDI USB interface connects with Vauxhall cars using the Global TIS, GDS and Tech2Win software that can be installed on any modern laptop running Windows XP Pro or Windows 7.

MDI was designed to be used to diagnose and flash reprogram GM cars built after 2009 with newer CAN bus systems like the Vauxhall Insignia and Antara. However, with the introduction of the Tech2Win Emulator software, the MDI is now fully backwards compatible with ALL Vauxhall cars from 1998 to present date.

• Global TIS – Main GM software – SPS Flash reprogramming, Security Updates, Software Downloads, Technical Information (Wiring diagrams, how to’s, tech reports etc.)
• Tech2Win – Tech II Emulator software – recreates Tech II on your Laptop screen to diagnose all Vauxhalls from 1998 to date.
• GDS – Global Diagnostic System – Used to diagnose Vauxhall CAN vehicles built from 2009 onwards like Insignia, Antara and Astra J

This means that MDI can perform FULL OEM diagnostics, SPS reprogramming and Security Access programming (Keys and Immobilisers) on all Vauxhall cars from 1998 to now, just the same as the dealers. Every function the dealer can do, the independent MDI owner can carry out as well. There is no difference in functionality in diagnosis or flash reprogramming whatsoever.

MDI is supplied direct from OEM factory and is completely original with OEM warranty (we DO NOT sell any type of clone devices). It is supplied with original Birth certificate, power supply, USB lead and OBD 16 pin vehicle connector

The MDI (Multiple Diagnostic Interface) offers significantly improved diagnostic and programming capabilities, e.g. reduced time requirement for programming operations by up to 70%.

The MDI features complete multi-brand capability. It can be used for SPS programming of all current and new Opel/Vauxhall and Saab models. The diagnostic functionality also has adaptive capability for all new models of the Opel/Vauxhall and Chevrolet brands, starting with the launch of the Vectra-C successor, Insignia.

The GM MDI Kit consists of:

The GM Bosch MDI - or Tech 3 as it is sometimes known - offers faster programming speed at a lower cost. The unit is PC based with using state of the art modular communications interface that makes the GM Bosch MDI -  20-70% faster than the Tech 2 for programming. This helps alleviate vehicle battery drain problems during standard programming procedures that require the ignition to be left on and keep the vehicles various networks and modules awake during this.

In the UK, MDI is predominantly used for SPS programming on Vauxhall Insignia, Astra J and other late Vauxhall models from 2009 onwards. Bur with NEW Tech2Win software MDI can now be used as a full functioning TEch 2 scanner on earlier Vauxhalls as well

At present, vehicles have two buses on the 16 pin connector plug (high speed and low speed GMLAN). The GM Bosch MDI - communicates using all of the existing GM protocols, the same as the Tech 2 which are; UART, Class 2, KWP2000 & GMLAN.

For future use -- Global architecture released in May 2009 will use a total of 4 GMLAN links. (This is a limited rollout in May 2009.) Global architecture adds a medium speed bus and an expansion bus. The Tech 2 and CANdi module can run only low and high speed, and won’t work on the 4 GMLAN link systems for diagnostics or programming. The MDI will have this capability which will apply to the latest Insignia range and onwards.

The GM Bosch MDI - Tech 3 has full J2534 Pass-Thru programming capabilities as well. It can be used to perform Pass-Thru programming and diagnostics on many other makes of vehicel. Please call us for details. 

The GM Bosch MDI - Tech 3 will be required to perform diagnostics on selected NAO vehicles for model year 2009 onwards

When diagnostics are introduced, the MDI will also get a remote data record capability. This permits recording data during a road test, similar to the Tech 2 Snap Shot function. A trigger switch connector is provided for this purpose.

The GM Bosch MDI - Tech 3 has an easy to grip, comfortable, rugged enclosure. Rubber end covers offer extra shock resistance making it highly durable for the garage environment.

The GM Bosch MDI - Tech 3 is powered through the DLC when connected to the vehicle. In addition, it has 4 AAA batteries for backup. The unit can also be powered using the provided AC adapter plugged into any 120V AC electrical outlet. Detachable port covers protect these connectors.

 

MDI is J2534 compatible so it can be used with any software that uses this protocol.
